On December 14 , 2023 as Newsclick Founder and editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha completed over 70 days in judicial custody on the basis of a UAPA case, Senior journalists, writers, lawyers, academicians and activists came together to express solidarity with the renowned journalist. Diverse aspects of Purkayastha’s latest book, Keeping Up the Good Fight: From the Emergency to the Present Day was discussed at the gathering held at Press Club of India, New Delhi. The meeting was hosted jointly by Leftword Books and the Press Club of India. NewsClick’s Human Resources Head, Amit Chakraborty, has also been under arrest since October.
N Ram, Director of The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited, joined the event virtually. Others present at the event, including Advocate Sanjay Hegde, Writer Githa Hariharan, Academic Indrani Mazumdar and Social Activist Bezwada Wilson discussed Prabir Purkayastha’s memoirs with senior journalist Surabhi Kanga.
