In Ayodhya, a new Ram Path (Ram corridor) modelled after the Kashi Viswanath Mandir corridor in Varanasi is coming up. As in Varanasi, what we are witnessing in Ayodhya now is frenzied demolitions for the new project. Many old buildings have already been razed along with centuries-old small temples that come in the way of the proposed corridor. So far, around 40 temples have been bulldozed and demolished. As the BJP government of Uttar Pradesh led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath marches ahead with this so-called reclamation of Ayodhya as a modern temple town, those who have lost their houses and livelihoods are the very people who supported the Ram Janmbhoomi movement by cooking food for the kar sevaks and offering them shelter.
