A five Decade Old Reportage From Nicobar And Its Continuing Relevance
It was in 1972 that a team of Indian researchers and journalists visited the Andaman – Nicobar islands. Among them was N Gopinathan Nair (NGN), whose news reports and analysis highlighted the unremitting plunder of natural resources and marginalisation of indigenous people of the region. The NGN reports have acquired greater relevance now, in the context of the new, so called development plans unleashed by the union government. Academics Asha Gopinathan and G Arunima, who also happen to be daughters of the legendary journalist, presented highlights of the NGN reports at a recent memorial function held in Thiruvananthapuram. Here, The AIDEM is reproducing an audiovisual record of the presentations.
