Journalist-Scholar Akshaya Mukul has written the most definitive historical chronicle of the rise of the Gita Press and its contribution in spreading aggressive Hindutva sensibilities, especially in North India. He responds to the recent announcement awarding the Gandhi Peace Prize to Gita Press in this interview with Venkitesh Ramakrishnan, Managing Editor of The AIDEM. Akshaya Mukul is appalled that this award has gone to an organization which is entirely antithetical to Gandhiji’s philosophy and values.

Undoubtedly a must listen conversation. The expanse of Mukul’s research on Gita Press is evident from his responses. As Mr Venu has stated earlier , the award has been given to Gita press only to insult the Mahatma … But as Mukul says it is not possible to wipe out or manipulate Gandhiji’s impact and influence on Indian society
