How ‘Cyber-Knife’ is Redefining Cancer Treatment ; A Unique Doctor-Patient Conversation

The AIDEM’s MEDTALK series returns after a gap with a unique conversation between Thomson CS, a Phd Scholar in Social Sciences and Dr. Debnarayan Dutta,Professor and Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology, Amrita Hospital, Kochi, Kerala. Thomson is himself a cancer patient and has been treated using the Cyber-Knife under Dr.Dutta’s care. Dr Dutta explains the science, precision, and implications of CyberKnife technology.

The ‘Cyber-Knife’ technology was introduced to Kerala in 2024 , though it was being developed globally since the early 2000s. In this conversation Thomson primarily seeks to find out the benefits of ‘Cyber-Knife’ and how it differs from other forms of cancer treatment.

Writing on his own experience with the treatment Thomson observes that “If cancer delivers impermanence as a fact of life, the CyberKnife stitches together the strands of sanity that have begun coming apart around it,” He was diagnosed in April 2025 with advanced lung cancer and metastatic lesions in the brain,
